Not had much time to get back to speed, so just a few lines today.
Chatting to colleagues in the steel trade, nothing much has changed, business is still slow and prices (despite being “talked up” by the manufacturers) remain weak.
I picked this little gem up from Paul at Tinbasher. If the process can be applied economically on an industrial scale it has good environmental potential.
Carbon steels are widely used for a range of applications where strength or durability is required. The presence of carbon in steel not only makes steel harder (but less ductile) but enables subsequent heat treatment which is required for a wide range of applications.
The ability to use a widely available waste product such as plastic as a partial alternative to coal can only be beneficial, both for recycling and the steel industry.
