Pakistan Steel has, for the second time in 15 days, increased the prices of its various products from Rs 7,000 to 8,000 per tonne, which the steel dealers fear may further increase prices of automobiles, home appliances and other value added products.
According to a survey by Daily Times, during the last two weeks, the prices of different steel products have increased. According to steel dealers, Pakistan Steel has enhanced prices of galvano plain (GP) roll by Rs 8,295 per tonne to Rs 65,175 per tonne on February 15, 2008, which was Rs 56,680 per tonne on January 30, 2008.
Similarly, the rate of hot roll plate has increased by Rs 8,887 to Rs 55,458 per tonne from its previous rate of Rs 46,571 per tonne.
Steel dealers said the Pakistan Steel’s prices of cold roll have surged by Rs 7,110 per tonne to its highest level of Rs 62,509 per tonne from January 31’s rate of Rs 55,399 per tonne.
