Corus to produce 1mm hot rolled steel strip

INVESTMENT at Corus's narrow strip mill in Rotherham is paying dividends in the shape of a new product that could save customers days of work.

The company has become one of a handful around the world that can supply cold rolling customers with 1mm thick hot rolled narrow strip.
This week, the Rotherham firm is unveiling its new breakthough at EuroBLECH 2008, the global sheet metal working exhibition in Hanover, Germany.

Corus Narrow Strip commercial manager, Richard Nicholls, said: "We've been intensively testing and developing this product for about 18 months, and now we are satisfied we have a high quality 1mm hot rolled narrow strip to offer to our customers.
"Our success in the development of this steel lies in the investment we have made in technology in our Narrow Mill in Rotherham, and the high quality Corus steel we use in our processes."
Corus says its new product will eliminate a full rolling cycle for customers and could save cold rolling manufacturers days on a typical cold rolling programme.
