Arcelor to sue Mittal over copyright infringement?

So Arcelor are to drag Mittal to the US courts over copyright infringement. Allegedly Mittal have copied an automotive steel branded as Usibor. Jean Lasar an Arcelor spokesman has said that the law suit is not connected with Mittals’ hostile takeover bid for the company. Call me an “old cynic” but the timing is rather fortuitous, just days before Mittal is due to set out the terms of their offer to Arcelor’s shareholders.

Usibor is a boron steel, one of the “ultra high strength steels” that have been devised over the past few years, mainly to allow automotive manufacturers to save weight by using lower thickness steel whilst retaining the required strength. Similar products are available from other steel producers under various other brand names, don’t ask me why they aren’t queing up to sue Mittal!
