The sauce of it!

Heinz have announced that they are closing the Aston plant in Birmingham where HP sauce has been produced for a hundred years!

BIRMINGHAM’S HP Sauce factory is to close, it was announced this afternoon.
The world-famous Aston plant will shut next year with the loss of 125 jobs after more than 100 years of manufacturing. Owner Heinz, which only bought HP Foods last year from Danone, made the bombshell announcement that it was transferring production of HP Sauce to Holland. Union leaders reacted with anger, saying workers were very “bitter” about the decision.

This is really not on Heinz! HP Sauce is the great British Sauce, it has it’s own page on Wickipedia, it has it’s own BLOG it’s an institution. What is a bacon sandwich without HP Sauce? It’s like having roast beef without Yorkshire pudding, or fish without chips, it’s just unthinkable.

Apparently they are going to shift the production to Holland. Well I have nothing against Holland, but they should stick to making clogs and growing tulips and leave our sauce alone. HP Sauce is British and made in Birmingham, moving production to Holland is the start of a “slippery slope ” for our traditions. The next thing you know they will be setting up a Yorkshire pudding factory in Lancashire!

What is this to do with Steel? Well bacon butties with HP sauce is the staple breakfast of the steelworker, trucker, metal basher and most working men that keep industry rolling. A “starbucks” and a Danish pastry might keep the city types moving, but a working man needs a mug of tea and a bacon butty with HP sauce.

The Goverment should get involved on this one. Apparently Prescott has lost his portfolio (he should be more carefull where he puts it), and he sure looks like a man who would appreciate a bacon butty or three. If he could take up the fight and save our HP sauce, he would at last have achieved something .

Well if HP sauce production goes to Holland then they can stick it on their Edam for me, because I am switching to Daddies.

R.I.P. H.P.
