Great Materials Resource Site

Whilst searching the net for details of an old superseded steel specification I came across a site called AZom, (an acronym for the AZ of materials technology). Whilst I was unable to locate the specification there, I had stumbled across a gem.

I am not a great one for mission statements (check out Dilbert’s mission statement generator), I will nevertheless quote AZom’s mission as it does sum up what they are about:

“The aim of AZoM is to become the primary materials information source for the engineering and design community worldwide. It also aims to be the primary publicist of news, views and developments within the materials science community. However, unlike many other materials related organisations AZoM is totally focussed on the needs of the end users of materials. To achieve this aim, all of the educational, informative and news content on AZoM is easy to access and search and is provided on a free of charge, no subscription, no charge per article, totally free basis.”

The “Knowledge team” behind the website boasts some impressive names, and YES the site is free!

The site has masses of information relating to steel, non ferrous metals, plastics, ceramics etc. In fact if anyone uses a material to make anything, then you will find it here.

Go check it out, sign up and support them, whilst information might be the key to enlightenment and power, it does not always have to come with a high price tag.
