Steelworks to shut down for a fortnight

Work at Llanelli's Trostre steelworks will grind to a halt next month.Workers have been told to stay at home for the first two weeks of April, and that their paypackets will be cut in half for the same period.

The Corus facility's staff have reacted angrily to the announcement, with trade unions and politicians also expressing dismay.
But company bosses have insisted the move is a temporary measure and the suspension of work is not connected to the £5.75 billion buy-out of Corus by Indian firm Tata. Their spokeman went on to say that the pause was due to a fall in demand for tinplate.
